Matt was born in Englewood, New Jersey and spent most his life in the Metropolitan New York City, NY area. Matt attended Dwight-Englewood School and Preparatory Academy in Englewood, New Jersey. After high school Matt attended Columbia University where he graduated with a B.S. degree and was a dual major in Economics and Politics Science. Matt also was a 4-year letterman for the Columbia Lions baseball team and was voted All Ivy League twice. In Matt's senior year he was selected as an All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, won the Ivy League Triple Crown, and was selected for All-Ivy League academic honors. Matt played professional baseball for a short time after graduation from college and decided to attend Temple University where he obtained his J.D. and M.B.A. in three years.

Matt graduated with distinction from the law and business schools at Temple, and was selected as a Distinguished Class Performer in Trial Advocacy. Matt passed the North Carolina bar in 2006 and since that time has worked at Shipman & Wright, L.L.P. His practice is devoted to civil litigation including: Medical Malpractice, Real Estate and Complex Commercial Litigation, Consumer Class Actions, Personal Injury, Construction Litigation, and Land Condemnation . Since passing the Bar Matt has also been a Certified Athlete Agent in the State of North Carolina assisting residents of southeastern North Carolina in their pursuit of professional athletics
