Shipman & Wright, L.L.P. Are Proud Sponsors Of
ACCESS of Wilmington
and the Miracle Baseball Field
Wilmington, NC. (June 9, 2009) - The newly formed non -profit organization ACCESS of Wilmington has confirmed ground breaking for the "Miracle Field" at Olsen Park for mid July.
Accessible Coastal Carolina Events Sports and Services, "ACCESS", is a non-profit organization that provides organized sports and recreational activities for all persons with disabilities in Wilmington and the surrounding areas. ACCESS has partnered with the City of Wilmington, New Hanover County, and the Olsen Park committee to bring this baseball facility, nationally known as a "Miracle Field" for children with special needs, to our community.
The Miracle League organization was created in 1998 in Conyers, Ga., when a group of parents decided to organize a baseball game for their children with special needs. The 35 children named themselves The Miracle League. Today, there are over 200 Miracle League organizations in the United States and over 100 more that are in the initial planning stages, making The Miracle League the fastest growing baseball program for children with disabilities.
The Wilmington field, which is scheduled to be completed by the spring of 2010, will be fully accessible to children and adults with or without disabilities. Because traditional baseball diamonds were not designed with wheelchairs and walkers in mind, the Miracle Field will be made of a specialized flat, rubber surface that allows such devices to move freely.
ACCESS of Wilmington's goal is to provide opportunity for inclusive recreation. The Miracle Field is just a start to a long list of desired sports and activities for persons with or without disabilities to enjoy together. Please tune in to the local news channel WWAY for more information on ACCESS and The Miracle Field in Wilmington. The 30 minute special that was sponsored by Shipman & Wright, L.L.P., and narrated by Gary Shipman, will introduce the wonderful people behind ACCESS and will feature some of the amazing children and adults whose lives have and will change with the highly anticipated and long overdue arrival of The Miracle Field of Wilmington.
