For the past several years, our firm has been requested, by current and prospective clients, to undertake representation of them in their real estate needs in a wide array of areas, ranging from residential/commercial real estate closings to the preparation of covenants, and everything in between. While our firm's practice has typically been devoted to litigation, we are ever sensitive to the needs of our clients and the community at large, and accordingly, I would like to take this opportunity to inform you that effective February 2, 2009, Shipman and Wright, L.L.P. will begin operating a "full service" Real Estate section, anchored by the newest member of our legal team, Hugh M. Currin, Jr., a 1980 graduate of Campbell University School of Law (and my law school classmate) who has more than twenty six years experience in loan closing, land and timber acquisition, real property litigation and construction law. Hugh will be assisted in our Real Estate Section by an experienced real estate paralegal who for the past several years has been employed with another law firm here in Wilmington that specializes in real estate, who, together with Hugh, will be able to assist you in all phases of residential and/or commercial acquisitions, loan processing and closings.
Our mission will be to make all aspects of the closing process as client friendly as possible. To this end, we will be charging our clients a $550 flat rate attorney's fee for a standard loan closing. We have come to appreciate a client's frustration in being quoted a fee and then discovering, at closing, numerous line item charges for other fees (i.e. email fees, wire fees, copy fees, etc.). It is our goal to eliminate these types of "add on" charges completely. We will also commit to an early client contact so that each client will be kept informed of the process from the time we receive the request until final closing and so that any issues [surprises] may be worked out before the time of closing.
Over the years, our firm has developed a well deserved reputation of handling our clients' needs in a professional, efficient and effective manner, and this latest advancement enables our firm to move towards our goal of become a "one stop shop" for our clients' legal needs. We would sincerely appreciate the opportunity to continue to serve you with your real estate needs, or any other matter.
