In Memory of Jenny

Shipman & Wright, L.L.P.

Jenny Zartman
5/08/1985 - 8/05/2006

On August, 5 2006, Jenny's life was taken from her by a drunk driver driving the wrong way on I-40. Jenny was an incredibly talented girl, wonderful daughter, sister and friend to many, who was attending UNC. The night Jenny was killed; she was on her way to Wilmington to visit a friend, a student at UNCW.

We were not privileged enough to know Jenny, but we are very grateful that we had the chance to get to know her very strong and determined parents. Nancy, Jenny's mother is working very hard at creating awareness of the dangers of driving while under the influence and stressing the importance of check points.

Our firm is joining the efforts of Nancy and the rest of her family to make a difference and honor the memory of Jenny and the beautiful life she lived. We would like to thank Nancy and her family for sharing their painful and tragic loss and for reaching out to the public in a positive way that will save lives.

Please read the poem below and pass along to your loved ones, It might make someone think twice before choosing to drink and drive. Unfortunately, so many lives have been lost in the same way as Jenny's. It's not worth it.

MOM
I went to this party mom
I remembered what you said
You told me not to drink mom
So I drank soda instead.

I started to drive away mom
As I pulled into the road
The other guy didn't see me mom
And hit me like a load.

He didn't know where he was going mom
He was probably at the same party as I
There's one big difference though mom
He's going to live while I die.

I lay there on the pavement mom
I hear the policeman say
The other guy was drunk mom
Now I'm the one to pay.

The boy who hit me mom
Is walking, it's no fair
I'm lying here dying mom
While all he does is stare.

Someone should have told him mom
Not to drink and drive
If someone else had taken him home mom
I'd still be alive,

I have one last question mom
Before I say good-bye
I didn't even drink mom
So why am I the one to die.

This is the end mom
I wish I could look you in the eye
To say these final words mom
I LOVE YOU & GOOD-BYE.
